Who we are looking for 

WE Communications is a full-service marketing communications agency delivering digital storytelling and integrated marketing campaigns that drive results for our clients and for the world.  

We are looking for an experienced health communicator with a love of health and science to work within our fast paced, fast growing health team. In this role you will be responsible for every aspect of the day-to-day management of client campaigns whilst demonstrating your leadership skills and mentoring junior team members.  

Successful candidates:  

  • Undergraduate or post graduate studies in science, public relations, marketing or equivalent and / or minimum 8 years related industry experience (health sector incl. working with pharma, health not-for-profits and medical technology companies) 
  • Agency experience preferred 
  • Strong knowledge of various regulatory requirements for marketing within the health sector e.g. Medicines Australia Code of Conduct, ASMI etc. 
  • A passion for health and achieving impactful results for healthcare clients 

 

The position 

The full time, permanent position is primarily office based (central location) with the option of flexible working from home.

  • Leading integrated communication programs including health literacy programs, new product launches and medical education  
  • Developing communication strategies and creating marketing materials (everything from media releases and blogs to podcasts and videos)

  • Liaising with top tier health media and key stakeholders like the health minister’s office 
  • Business development and networking 
  • Team management and coaching staff

What you'll be doing

Key responsibilities for this position include: 

Client service: 

  • Responsible for the strategic direction and growth of client accounts and overseeing the day-to-day management of accounts. 
  • Responsibility for management of client account budgets and for the health business unit’s overall financial performance, including achieving set minimum business targets  
  • Ability to independently manage client issues and negotiations and responsible for organic client growth. 
  • Responsible for delivering – without supervision – client service that is consistent with WE’s standards. 

 

General skills: 

  • Highly competent in all forms of communication writing and services including superior editing skills. 
  • Exceptional time management and organisational skills. 
  • Highly competent in leading development of client proposals and plans including strategy development. 
  • Highly competent in ability to set clear tasks and excellent coaching and leadership skills. 
  • Responsible for every aspect of a nominated health business unit’s performance including ongoing strategic direction, growth, client satisfaction, staff relations and development, and new business development. 
  • A superior knowledge of all media facets and a well-developed network of national media contacts. 
  • Superior knowledge of the health landscape and healthcare clients (e.g. pharmaceutical companies) incl. knowledge of regulations that restrict health communications. 
  • Ability to provide overall strategic direction and advice for the management and implementation of media and PR campaigns. 
  • Involvement in recruitment and retention of team members as well as succession planning. 
  • Ensure that members of the health business unit uphold all ’s policies and procedures. 
  • Mentor and manage junior staff and contribute positively to the agency’s culture. 
  • Autonomous control of planning resourcing and team capacity. 
  • Conduct staff reviews with General Manager / Principal. 
  • Superior negotiation and conflict management skills. 
  • Oversee the management of all health business unit projects. 
  • Excellent financial understanding and management. 
  • Achieve financial and growth targets set with the GM and/or Principals 
  • Key role in ensuring profitability for the health business unit 
  • Expected to proactively contribute to the future direction and development of new business at a strategic level and lead staff in identifying, researching and preparing new business proposals. 
  • Well connected with solid ability to leverage connections to drive new business – securing opportunities to submit proposals or pitch – ultimately win the business. 
  • Well developed presentation skills and confidence in autonomously leading the team in new business presentations. 
  • Contribute to the promotion and growth of as a company through new business ideas and processes. 
  • Ensure the organic growth of the health business unit. 

What you've been able to accomplish

Key selection criteria:

  15. Extensive knowledge of WE’s resources, culture, and system. 
  16. Understand the financial aspects of the business. 
  17. Proficient in computer software.
