  • Overview

    The Lead Editor collaborates closely with the wider Integrated Services team and other WE account-side stakeholders to ensure delivery of first-rate custom content across a variety of subjects, types and clients. Job duties span a range of editorial exercises -- from helping shape content approaches and commissioning/managing optimal writing and editorial talent for each project to fine-tuning content spanning a healthy range of topics and types. Output includes, but is not limited to, short- and long-form articles, messaging narratives, speeches, marketing demand-gen content such as nurture mail, landing pages, eBooks and more; videos and motion graphics, blogs, website copy, infographics, data visualizations, email newsletters, social ads and organic posts, and more.


    Job Functions:

    • Edit, rewrite, copyedit and/or proofread (based on project need) various types of journalistic, branded and/or sponsored content on a wide range of topics and fields (eg: PR, marketing, advertising, sales).
    • Apply editorial and strategic guidance; incorporate editorial, account and client feedback to meet audience needs and project objectives; and otherwise ensure content deliverables meet style, brand, quality, tone/voice and project requirements.
    • Oversee content creation: Commission and manage freelance talent; conduct research and/or study provided materials to make content approach recommendations; shape content brief and workback schedule; support writer in crafting interview questions; conduct or participate in project meetings and interviews; provide editorial review; and/or otherwise ensure final content aligns with client needs and audience interests.
    • Apply a keen eye for story to connect the specificity of individual content pieces to broader themes, ideas and strategies.
    • Other job duties as assigned


    Minimum/Preferred Requirements

    • Bachelor’s degree or advanced degree in English, Journalism, Marketing, Communications or applicable field is required.
    • 8 + years’ experience writing, editing, copyediting and/or commissioning journalistic, branded and/or sponsored content.
    • Exceptional editorial and writing skills, and deftness enforcing the style, tone, and voice appropriate to any given project.
    • Familiarity with the rhythms and tools of a digital newsroom (including AP and Chicago style).
    • Experience collaborating on marketing demand-generation campaigns that boost customer engagement build and nurture key prospect and customer relationships throughout the sales cycle.
    • A solid understanding of the technology industry and drive to stay fresh on outlooks and trends in tech’s intersection with healthcare, social-good and consumer companies.
    • Proficiency with Mac OS, Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel and PowerPoint especially), Adobe (Acrobat, InDesign), WordPress and/or other CMSs, Project-tracking and project management tools such as BaseCamp, Wrike, etc.
