Who we are looking for

We are looking for a candidate with a passion for health and science to join our team of health communications sector specialists.

 

At a time where we are seeing unprecedented impacts of the pandemic on the health landscape, there has never been a more interesting time to work in health communications. Over 40% of the work WE Communications do is in the health space and this is continuing to rise. We are therefore looking to grow our team with someone who is enthusiastic about working in health communications.

The position

The full time, permanent position is primarily located at either Level 8/52 Phillip Street, Sydney CBD or Level 3/132-136 Albert Road, South Melbourne, with the option of working from home up to two days per week.

The position will be responsible for working alongside the team to create, manage and execute campaigns across the entire communication ecosystem. The key purpose of the position is to support the team to create and maintain strong relationships with clients in the bio-pharmaceutical, medical technology, digital health, health service and consumer health space. The role will also involve developing engaging content (potentially scientific in nature), having a good understanding of the health (and health media) environment, and supporting execution of product launch, disease awareness and corporate reputation campaigns.

 

A day in the life of this position could include:

  • Helping to keep the team up to date with the latest health news across mainstream, medical and trade media.
  • Working across a diverse and interesting range of disease areas and health sectors.
  • Maintaining the everyday running of client accounts and engaging with clients.
  • Speaking directly with stakeholders including patients, patient advocacy groups, healthcare professionals and helping them to communicate their unique stories and opinions.  
  • Supporting the development of communication materials including press materials, briefing documents, research reports, pitch points and case study write ups.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities for this position include:

  • Maintaining and growing relationships with key, senior level influencers
  • Identifying communication trends and educating/informing clients and agency colleagues and partners on changes and trends;
  • Monitoring, reporting and providing insight on competitor and issue-specific social media activities, as well as unique and creative uses of social campaigns or emerging culture themes;
  • Leveraging clients extensive data to conceive and drive stories apart from traditional news milestones;
  • Modeling agency values, mentor and coach colleagues and junior employees on agency “best practices” and successful engagement with influencers;
  • Overseeing and reinforcing consistent adherence to media management processes: media lists, coverage monitoring and industry coverage trends;
  • Maintaining and growing client relationships by contributing to the development and implementation of communication strategies, executing on projects (leading where appropriate);
  • Identifying opportunities to grow and diversify current accounts and new business efforts to include sourcing and gathering audience, industry or competitor market data; and
  • Negotiating and managing client expectations and satisfaction, ensuring internal and external stakeholders are aligned.

Qualifications

Key Selection Criteria

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, English, Science or related field, or equivalent experience.
  2. 1-2 years of experience in Public Relations, preferably in an agency setting.
  3. Strong analytical writing, verbal communication, presentation and consulting skills.
  4. Experience with writing and developing materials, including integrated communication plans, press releases, pitches, and social media content.
  5. Working knowledge of, and a strong interest in further developing, integrated communications principles incorporating traditional and digital and social media.
  6. Ability to work with a high level of initiative.
  7. Experience working with colleagues in multiple locations, with strong client service skills.
  8. Comfortable in a fast-paced team environment with frequent tight deadlines and multitasking multiple priorities.
  9. Understanding of the health landscape and the regulations / codes of conduct that govern health communications.
